Midwestern Social Research is a small collective of artists who emerged from the mid-aughts Twin Cities underground artpunk scene. Our mission is to utilize our collective skills to promote local artists.
Our inaugural and ongoing project is the digital transfer of the Stoltz Video Archive to YouTube — 50-some MiniDV tapes of underground Twin Cities shows recorded from about 2005 to 2007. We collaborate with the original bands — cross-referencing flyers and personal journals — to collect information like dates, venues, and song titles. Not everything was online back then!
If you were there, come check out the channel and spot your younger self rocking out (and smoking indoors)! If you weren't, come experience a slice of an incredibly fertile and unique DIY art and music scene!
We post every Friday. Visit, Subscribe, Like, and Share!
